#181 RE: Cannot enable Intel PTT (TPM 2.0) at ASUS motherboard by cacafuti8888 25.08.2021 01:20

Asus Maximus VIII Ranger (z170) can confirm that this method enables the ttp module without needing the externat tpm module. I only can say moth***** Asus for not showing any options in the uefi and THANKS to the guy who made this tutorial, you save me scalper prices of TPMs.

Could you let me know how you did this?

I've got the same i7 6700k and z170 pro gaming but can't get it to work

I followed the steps that maxdarksol posted. Maybe the tricky part was the bootable usb but i founded on github someone that did it for me and thats it. Tell me whats ur issue and maybe i can help u.

Long time between drinks and after reading this thread I've read up on UBU and obviously this thread. I am not having any luck at the moment.

Running z170 Hero with 6700K. I see others have been successful. I've updated:

Microde code updated to: EA
ME Firmware updated to: 11.8.86.3909 H

Kept changing the setup_var 0x6A6 0x1 but I cannot make it stick and of course Windows doesn't see TPM. Interestingly, I see nothing in MEinfo regarding PTT anymore.

FPF ME

Force Boot Guard ACM Disabled Disabled
Protect BIOS Environment Disabled Disabled
CPU Debugging Enabled Enabled
BSP Initialization Enabled Enabled

All this has disappeared since I updated ME firmware:

Sorry I wasn't replying to you as different MB, though I guess you gotta use quote and not reply.

For my MB the value appears to be 0x687 however when changing it (which does stick as it will still be set to 0x1 when I go back to change it again) windows still doesn't pick it up.

So does anyone know the fix for this?

Intel(R) Platform Trust Technology - NOT PRESENT

This happened after I updated to latest ME Firmware updated to: 11.8.86.3909 H. I've done BIOS optimisation, no luck. I've done clean BIOS from ASUS, no luck. Tried going back to original microcode and ME drivers, no luck. Checked the BIOS ME and ME FW via FIT and both show as attached (enabled). I know this board and chip has had success here but I'm failing; 0x6A6 0x1 is not sticking after reboot.

What more can I try, what am I missing?

ASUS Z170-K and (BIOS version 3805)
I didn't have "TPM Device Selection" and TPM option in bios settings. I notice that on Asus web site is Intel ME (Version 11.8.77.3664) with date 2020/09/01. So I install it and now I have TPM in Intel Security menu without ani BIOS mods.

nice. except the Intel ME firmware v11.8.77.3664 download is only available for the Z170-K board and not listed nor available for other Z170 boards like Z170-A, Z170-E and Z170-P on the ASUS support site as I recently checked myself.

I wonder if that Intel ME 11.8.77.3664 firmware can be used on other Z170 boards besides Z170-K. one person I was recently helping who has a Z170-a board cannot update the Intel ME firmware and gets an error message saying "local firmware updating is disabled" - how can that problem be worked around or overcome?

Thanks a BUNCH. Worked like a charm on my i5-6600K

-Already had the latest 3802 BIOS (which was shocking to learn)
-I trusted the offset posted here was correct for the Z170-A and jumped directly to USB creation, following #135 to create the FAT32 USB drive with modGRUBShell.efi renamed to /efi/boot/bootx64.efi
-Restarted with the USB drive still in place and hit Delete for BIOS.
-Went to Boot tab/menu, checked Secure Boot was ON and set to Other OS (I'm booting Legacy and MBR so no surprise here), I didn't technically change anything here so I didn't restart.
-Back to the parent Boot tab, scrolled all the way down past the Boot order, and found there was a list of available boot drives, so I clicked Grub and to my surprise, it loaded inline on the ASUS BIOS screen without a restart.
-Entered "setup_var 0x6A6 0x1", it complained like the info was incorrect, but set it anyways, I typed "exit" and I'm back at the Boot tab
-At this point I wasn't sure what to do. Should I save changes or discard changes. Technically I didn't change anything, so I went with Discard and restart.
-Whoops, USB drive is still plugged in, pulled it and hit the restart button on the case.
-Windows came up, hit Windows-R, typed "tpm.msc" and TPM 2 was on. Tried WNW11 and it was all good there too.
-Came here to post as I didn't expect this to work after initially reading all 13 pages.
-Haven't checked BIOS to see if there are new options, don't care, so many more checkboxes to turn green in WNW11. On to MBR2GPT...

It looks like PTT is somewhat enabled, but Windows 11 (installed with the registry bypass hack) does not recognize it.

I have an Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha with a i7-6700, what should I do next?

#192 RE: RE:Cannot enable Intel PTT (TPM 2.0) at ASUS Z170-A by ChrisLuther 14.09.2021 21:55

ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme

I have managed to get the PTT to PRESENT/ENABLED using the setup_var 0x6a6 0x1 however further down in list it states
FPF ME
PTT Disabled Enabled

No options in bios to set.

Latest bios 3801 dated 2018

I did try to hack the bios
if I update the ME it changes to NOT PRESENT.

I my config saved and both BIOS are same version. I use copy bios 2 to 1 so i can revert the ME upgrade.

Board is not listed in their list to receive updates
tpm.msc lists no TPM.

#193 RE: RE:Cannot enable Intel PTT (TPM 2.0) at ASUS Z170-A by Gooch4130 16.09.2021 01:14

Will these steps work on an Asus MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT. This is a Z170 motherboard (not sure how that differs from a Z170a). My board has no spot to install a physical TPM module, but my CPU is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU and should have PTT. Don't want to bother with the steps unless it can potentially work. Thank you in advance!!

For my MB the value appears to be 0x687 however when changing it (which does stick as it will still be set to 0x1 when I go back to change it again) windows still doesn't pick it up.

Sorry for the delay. I think that you have to run these command "setup_var 0x687" and it gives you 0x0 result, and then run "setup_var 0x687 0x1" to change from dedicated tpm to the ptt one. That's what i did both times (bios update that deleted prervious) and both ways ran fine.

You have to run "setup_var 0x6AC 0x1" in your case
