I had ported the software from original build of my computer from my old Windows 7 Home Premium A/V laptop, to this Windows 7 Professional Workstation, without needing to reinstall 95% of the softwares, because such re-installation might not be possible, given the older versions, and re-activation pitfalls -- I used a special procedure to port over the software, to at the time, a WD Black 2 TB drive, and once everyone was stable, a few years later, I cloned the drive to a 2 TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD. All is working very well, my programs load extremely fast, with some of them loading completely into the RAM.

The intent of the NVMe drive addition is for me to have a dedicate, high speed A/V drive for high resolution A/V projects (including uncompressed HD, as well as 4K, 8K, VR, and 3-D workflows), so I was not planning to make the NVMe drive my boot drive. Given your recommendation, I will definitely consider making the NVMe drive my OS boot, when I can dedicate the time & resources necessary to port over the OS & software, though based on the procedure you outline, it could be that I could add the necessary NVMe drivers (Hotfix) to the existing OS installation on the SSD, and then clone this drive onto the NVMe drive (to avoid OS reinstallation), after I update the BIOS -- I'll explore this as an alternative as well in the future, in order to get the best performance, as you recommended.

For now, since I plan to use the NVMe drive only for A/V data, are the BIOS modifications needed, or is the Hotfix the only step needed, given that I don't need the drive to boot?

Super! Thank you very much Fernando -- I will start with a data-only configuration, and will plan to migrate to an NVMe boot in the future.

I would like to ask whether its possible to use a PCIE x16/x8 if available with 2x slots for M.2 NVME SSD's was possible, raid or not doesn't really matter, i was thinking about using my GTX 780 in X8 speeds and the leftover X8 used for 2x M.2 NVME SSD's like the 970 Pro. I was wondering would that be possible? I was thinking about using this Supermicro AOC-SLG3-2M2 PCIe Add-On Card for up to two NVMe SSDs but it says it needs Needs PCI Express Bifurcation. Is there any way to enable this with BIOS modifications? Thanks

Don't have the money, my old board works well. Anyways earlier i found a way to do this. Apparently 8 series and 9 series are well adaptable, it has the feature but just not turned on. All i have to do is get the right BIOS tools to enable em' thanks.

following your suggestion on the Samsung 950 PRO I still have a little doubt, you guide is very clear but I'm afraid of messing up the MB and bios :( (a little afraid a do a mess and brick the MB :) )
My MB is an Asus P6W6 with Xeon E5530 processor and I have a 950 PRO.
Sorry for the dummy question but what is the CSM? will it impact performance?
When you said it will add some delay due to the module on the M.2 is it half a sec, 1 sec, 10 sec ? any idea?

Another question is: today I have W10 on a SSD and I planning to mirror the disk on the 950 to gain performance but not lose my data and profiles.
Will this work with CSM active? and with CSM disabled? (I think W10 will re adapt the drivers in case of change of the drivers but not sure)

My Asus Z87-Pro sucsesfuly boot from Kingston KC1000 NVMe PCIe SSD!
Modification was done using NvmExpressDxe_4.ffs
Bios was flashed Using the ASUS "USB Flashback" procedure

Then i clone my windows 10 using Acronis true image in UEFI Boot mode. It automatically convert my NVMe disk to GPT and make it bootabe.
All procedure take 30 mins!

I want to be able to use 2 different ssd's in either raid or in non raid. I was just wondering. The guide that the person posted online is kinda outta my realm of understanding but i might be able to get it done.

Unfortunately I have tried to get this to work on my SuperMicro X9SCM-F but no success yet.
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get it working...

Hardware:
- SuperMicro X9SCM-F motherboard
- Samsung 970 Evo 250GB
- EasyDiy PCIe M.2 adapter (https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01J36B75S/ref=...ding=UTF8&psc=1)

What I already did:
- create bootable USB Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installer
- insert the NVMe module NvmExpressDxe_4.ffs into the latest X9SCM-F BIOS firmware as per your detailed instructions
- flash the BIOS
- boot from the USB Ubuntu installer
- install Ubuntu to the SSD (shown as dev/nvme0n1 in the installer)

After this I see "pata ss" as a device in my boot options, but when I try to boot to this I get a "no bootable device" message.
I've tried all kinds of settings in the BIOS but nothing has fixed it.
If I see "pata ss" does this mean the BIOS mod and flash were both successful?
Any ideas on what else I should try?
