I was attempting to create a Hackintosh with my Acer 576G per this guide. Sadly, I think I wasn't paying close enough attention to the CustoMac ID system and, foolishly, I rolled back my BIOS from UEFI to Legacy thinking I needed to do that for my hardware. Unfortunately, I DO have password protection lock on my BIOS and, because I can't select any options in that BIOS, I can't remove them (not able to set/reset admin pw in BIOS). Because of that, I'm not able to follow your instructions to the letter.

Unless I hear from you, I'll give it a shot (step #1 only) without being able to disable pw and update you on my progress.

Sorry, those links are alien to me, I know very little about MAC/OSX, only a few mods I know how to do for users that need them, the rest of all the stuff you guys do I am not familiar with (example, I followed your hindsight link and didn't see anything on that page relevant to our discussion)

Why do people password protect their BIOS!!! There may be nothing we can do now until you get a flash programmer (CH341A + SCOI8 test clip with cable), due to that!
However, we can try to change BIOS "Boot Mode" to UEFI instead of Legacy, once you confirm for me that this is all you meant >> You change that setting shown on your first image at post #14 to Legacy instead of UEFI and this = rolled back my BIOS from UEFI to Legacy you keep mentioning

Well, this is all part-and-parcel of me being a noob and recklessly breaking stuff to learn.

@electricSNICK - It's OK, we all have to learn stuff sometimes, and BIOS can be tricky!
Thanks for clarification, tonight when I have more time, I will write you out info on how to change that setting back, and then hopefully it will be possible and that will unlock your BIOS back to how it was before (password set may be an issue, for everything here).

Yes, I did not watch the video, but you can try to clear CMOS and see if that resets BIOS back to UEFI mode. You can also try to change this by loading optimal defaults on the BIOS exit page, if that is not also grayed out to you now as well.
If you can clear CMOS, it should reset the setting, because UEFI would/should be default I think (didn't check to confirm though, no time to look right now). This will not remove your password though

Well, I did a factory reset by unplugging the the computer battery and removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard. Here's what's interesting, the factory UEFI were installed, but I still have NO options available in the UEFI menu.

@electricSNICK - Good to see clear CMOS Fixed the setting at least, so you can boot to windows now right. You may need CH341A + SOIC8 test clip to fix this Or send PM and ask @DeathBringer if he can look at your BIOS dump in post #16 and tell you the password
If you can't boot to windows, I think we can disable password on boot (this may unsuppress some items, not sure), if you had that enabled. Secure boot can be disabled as well, would either of those help for now?

Ahh! I don't think you can use that now, due to secure boot enabled! And your BIOS has no exit to shell setting, so not sure if you can boot to Shell or not, try this, and see if you can use grub2 (setup_var) to change secure boot to disabled

1. Currently, I'm running Acer stock BIOS Insyde 1.49. According to Acer, this release updated Intel microcode; which may (?!?!???) make it more difficult to switch between BIOS and UEFI (and/or install previous versions of BIOS)

2. Thanks, I know my password! But, according to @Lost_N_BIOS , the mere fact that a password is set severely limits recovery options. Because everything is greyed out/I can't select items in BIOS/UEFI, I can't unlock the password enablement

3. Yes, I've now completely restored my system and am running the disk image I made just prior to attempting BIOS modifications. In truth, "everything is fixed" and my system is operable ... BUT it drives me nuts that the UEFI aren't right and I can't select other options.

I've attached the HWiNFO 64 report FYI and I can provide other information/documentation as you'd like.

@Lost_N_BIOS also sent along detailed instructions about trying to resolve using RU (I can share that with you if you'd like). Can you see that post? (I'm still getting use to the boards and I'm not sure what is public view vs. private view)

Thanks again for all the info! I've now recovered my previous image but, as I mentioned in comments to @airstars, the fact that UEFI isn't working correctly is irksome.

I've also got a test clip but, sadly, this is my only WinTel box and I may wait until I have a backup before I go mucking about (more) with the guts of the machine ... it just depends on how antsy I get.

I'm going to poke around RU a bit. I also tried Rufus previously but didn't have much luck with that ... I wonder if it might be time to revisit now.

To verify, no, I cannot make any changes in my UEFI currently. It's a bit hard to tell from the screenshot, but you can see that none of the menu items are white/blue

I've been corresponding with @airstars a bit but thought it would be best to move the discussion back over here.

Status: I've recovered my original Win10 installation and everything works BUT, for some reason, it seems like any UEFI that is installed does NOT allow me to select options. Since this is odd, I thought I would re-hash what I was doing when I initially broke the system (this also answers your question about UEFI & BIOS airstars).

**I was trying to boot from Hackintosh bootloader tool Clover UniBeast." I actually got partway through the procedure, you can see the vid here. BUT, I made the mistake of thinking that I should have been using Legacy BIOS for that procedure and, so, yes, I changed my UEFI to BIOS "Legacy", here's a grab of when I did that about a week ago:



@Lost_N_BIOS, to use RU, I need to change some settings in UEFI, and I still can't do that. airstars has sent me a couple of files and I've now done two variations of a factory reset:

1. Remove CMOS battery, replace, power on and boot. This restored the UEFI from the BIOS "Legacy" that I had been running. However, no options could be selected so ...
1(a). After two attempts at installing a prior version of my Inside UEFI ...
2. airstars instructed me to do a key reset of the power booting directly from a drive with a file (s)he provided. When I reported back that I successfully completed the procedure but that the UEFI still had no, I could almost airstars shaking his/her head in befuddlement

Which brings us to:
--Lost: I cannot access command shell, or anything, from the UEFI menu. I DO have Win10 up and running and I can also install Linux or whatever if you think there's any hope following a path like that
--airstars: I'll document with screenshots
--I have the AiTrip SOIC8 programmer available, but I need to get another laptop up and running (I have to buy a cheapie) before I break that out; I could probably putz around with that early next week
