@Grapefruit - you didn't try very hard , that BIOS can be extracted two ways without BIOS editing knowledge (Double click to install, find in temp folder + with WinRAR installed right click, extract)

I extracted the main BIOS bin for you, from the isflash.bin. Provided is the 2MB EC and 4MB BIOS, and combined 6MB BIOS (For anyone that needs to flash it later).
There is also 1MB other EC file in isflash.bin, but I looked at other dumps for this system and they all have 2MB EC files, so unsure what the 1MB EC is used for within the isflash, maybe one of the other systems mentioned on Dell download page?

I tried the methods of executing /writehdrfile etc. and the one with the temp folder, but those wouldn't work :(
So I extracted the .exe with 7zip and found the isflash.bin, which was too big for the BIOS, so I tried to edit it with a Hex-editor to find the actual Bios image, but without success again.

How exactly did you extract the image from isflash.bin?

I'll have the SPI programmer and test clip to try the images on thursday or friday.

In my temp are only the same contents as 7zip would give me, but those don't include a .f or .fd file.

Edit: I was looking through your files, now I see what exactly you extracted from the isflash.bin :)

@Seriouse - this BIOS has BIOS Guard, so flashing/programming in any compiled/extracted BIOS may prove to be tricky (brick), hard to know how that will be affected.
Here is extracted exe/HDR, along with two other complete dumps I found for you, you'll need to insert payload.data from HDR extract into one of the dumps

Has Dell changed the way they package the BIOS recently? I'm trying to extract / decompress one for an Inspiron 7580 [1] but I've been unsuccessful at it. The older Python script seems not to work and neither does Dell HDR extract, Universal Extractor (a general purpose extractor, not targeted at this at all) doesn't like it either.

I tried running the file, for the sake of it, and it seems to lay down several files at %Temp% but they're UI related. Would it be possible they're working off memory directly now?

Indeed! For some reason the binary didn't work for me yesterday, that's what led me to seek other options but it's working now (Python version too, even without PFSExtractor it produces the HDR file).

@Boroda944 - Stock BIOS for 7010 does not extract into usable files for programmer, you need actual dump (4MB + 8MB BIOS chips on this model, one BIOS one EC/ME) - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...633741964620728
It would be better to build from dumps off your board, so you keep asset tag, serial, LAN MAC ID etc. I can send you working dumps, but you'll loose your board specific details that way, let me know if you want them (Or search here, they are posted already on a fix ME 7010 thread)

Hello, I tried to update the BIOS for my Alienware M17xR4 but it doesn't work due to my battery being dead (6yo battery).

The flash tool dell provides is called InsydeFlash, I tried to temper the parameters.ini to remove the AC verification but it doesn't work (the software always create a new version of the parameters.ini when you start it), I even tried to put the parameters.ini in Read only, but then, InsydeFlash doesn't open at all.

Mine is still at A11, I am trying to update the BIOS in order to solver a GPU problema, it's status is Faulty on windows drivers, but when I run ePSA Built-in Diagnostics from Dell, every test on the Video card is normal.

Thank you all, how should I proceed? I can't update the driver at all and I am not willing to afford another battery.

in addition, after some search, I noticed these 2 files .bin in the InsydeFlash folder...


One is from A12 and the other is from A15... Are those the BIOS files that I can use to proceed with creating a flashdrive?

After digging in this .bin file, I found the parameters.ini directives there, so I manage to change the BatteryCheck=1 to 0, and the InsydeFlash restarts, but then again, life isn't easy, now I am stuck at
"InsydeH20 - Secure Flash
Error : Invalid firmware image!!!"

Tried everything, formatted all my disks, removed all of them, left just 1 disk inside the notebook, changed to UEFI + GPT, disabled secure boot, back to legacy boot, removed the battery for 10 minutes to clear CMOS, nothing worked so far... always the invalid firmware image error...

Might it's cause be that I am changing the BatteryCheck flag to 0 and it's not recognizing the firmware image? It doesn't make sense because is just a Hex change from 01 to 00... I am so confused.

when i try to flash *.FD image i get same message like yours,
when i try to flash *.bin file i get Error in Windows "it only supports to flash secure BIOS on current platform. the image to be updated is not secure BIOS"

@klaxklax3 @Tacca - You have to edit the iscflash.dll in assembly to bypass the exact error you are receiving.
Or, flash back to A05, then flash mod or whatever updated BIOS using a non-modified regular BIOS package/update

You cannot use FPT method mentioned there for updating stock BIOS or using any stock BIOS files etc. That is mainly for "BIOS Mods" flashing, and when you do that you dump your BIOS first using FPT, then modify that, then flash it back.
So, again, I repeat, do not FPT Flash anything from a stock BIOS or stock BIOS package using FPT - you can brick your board, you will loose board specific details such as serial, asset tag, windows activation, LAN MAC ID etc.
