Hi there,

as a newbee i have the following question:

as i could find no way to get the BIOS menus of the latest ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Extreme BIOS (3401) modified - cause AMIBCP 5.2 crashes when trying to save the modifications - i would like to know, if there is any way, to modify BIOS "Setup" module, which i extracted with CodeRushs UEFITool and converted it to textfile with "Universal-IFR-Extractor" and than import it back to the BIOS file after modification?
For example i have some codesnippet (this is the code, i would like to modify and than bring it back into the BIOS file):

This, for example, is the THUNDERBOLT part (with some entries hidden) of my related BIOS. As you may see, the part for detected eGPU is NOT defaulted to be visible for normal enduser, so i would like to make it visible for me to make some tests. Normaly i would do this with AMIBCP by changing menu-entry from "Default" to "User" - but since BIOS 2202 AMIBCP crashes whenever i try to save my modifications. BIOS 2202 was the last bios, where i was able to make such changes with AMIBCP. So if anyone of the experts here are ale to help or could give me a tip, what else i can try to make my needs possible, i'll be happy, if you share your minds with me.

PS: one of my ideas was it, to extract SETUP body part via UEFITool and modify it with hex editor. But i dont know the values to change from "default" to "user". Maybe i should make the changes with part of BIOS 2202: change just one value from "default" to "user" and compare the changed values with hex editor.

Since I am not an expert regarding the sort of BIOS modding you are demanding, I cannot help you. Hopefully you will get support by anyone else.
My comment: BIOS modding newbees shouldn't try to modify system BIOS modules. The chances are very high, that it will end with a bricked mainboard.

hey Fernando i hope that you can help me with this problem. i have a non-Uefi Ami bios with intel n4200 processor ...the problem is that i cant editing the bios file with anything ....nothing works.

1 - UEFITool latest version : its open with intel image... but when i want to save it ...cant be saved

2 - MMtool apito : i can see the bios ..Extraction its work but when you need to save it ...it cant be saved

i dont know what should i do next

Thanks for the attached BIOS.
It is an AMI UEFI BIOS, which can be easily opened by using the AMI Aptio IV MMTool.
By the way: Since your mainboard BIOS is an UEFI one, you have posted your request into the wrong (non-UEFI) thread.

Since you obviously have tried to open the BIOS by using CodeRush's UEFITool, you must have seen, that the BIOS file is invalid.

BIOS modding is not only dangerous and no task for newbees, but sometimes difficult as well.

@lordkag I hate having to dig this up, since I do think it's pretty well-written and self-explanatory. I usually update the microcode manually as per davidm's tutorial, but I wanted to give this more efficient method a try on the latest BIOS for my MSI X99S MPOWER.
After successfully changing offset 0x13 from value 0C to 08 in 1BA0062E-C779-4582-8566-336AE8F78F09, I went on to open the BIOS file in a hex editor. However, the offsets stated are different and do apparently not apply for this file. Only by changing offset 0x13, the method did not work in UBU.

Couple years ago you instructed me how to enable Ubutool to properly change cpu microcodes without failure by searching for certain addresses and changing values. However this year a new bios version rolled out however the manufacturer neglected to update the cpu microcodes and those hexadecimal values are no longer valid. After a little digging I found this:

Are the locations still the same?

You will notice that the offset is no longer FFE0C8 but FFDEA8. Do the final values still apply?

Hello guys! I have a difficult question:

my laptop bios is aptio V but it has a graphical user interface.
Al bios modding usually happens with the text mode bios setup.
My bios (notebook asus gl703vd) has both inside the bios flash but only the GUI is shown so any modification done with amibcp modiefies the text mode setup but obviously not the GUI setup utility.
Now I wish to know if any of you know a way to execute the text mode setup (in bios that usually has a graphical interface) or if there is some varibale or hotkey to obtain that.

Hi all, I'm trying to inject the latest microcode into my Asus H81M-PLUS motherboard's BIOS (latest is from 2015, in .cap format). I've successfully done this for my Asus P6T Deluxe V2 using MMTool 3.26 but as I understand it, this is incompatible with newer UEFI BIOSs. The problem is, if I use MMTool 5.0.0.7, the options to delete and insert microcode updates are greyed out so I can't change anything. If I use MMTool 4.50.0.23, it crashes as soon as I go to the CPU Patch tab.

Any ideas? I also notice that if I extract the existing microcode, it's 20 kB, whereas the new file (cpu306C3_plat32_ver00000024_2018-01-21_PRD_FCD4700E.bin) is 23 kB.
